October News

OMG! What an interesting time we've had recently. We didn't suffer any damage when Hurricane Helene blew through. Lots of leaves and small branches fell into the backyard. I think it was a good thing we had our trees pruned and two Bradford pear trees removed in July. Many friends and our golf course lost trees. Mike was busy helping them to clear the trees and debris.
Commercial power, cable, and internet went out early Friday morning. It didn't return until the following Wednesday. Fortunately, we'd invested in a whole-house generator. That made our life easier. The rumble of the generator was comforting. I learned I'm reliant on the internet way too much!
With our generator running, I could type in my handwritten pages for Bourbon Neat. Just couldn't save it to the cloud. I love the story. The title has me hooked! I hope you'll like it.
For some reason, I signed up for an AutoCrit 90-Day Novel Writing Challenge. The idea is to write and edit a 50,000-word story in 90 days.
I'm using my Presidents' Day story idea I listed in my February 17, 2023, blog post, "Story Ideas…Where Do They Come From??"
Masquerade party—"Dolly Madison" is carrying George Washington's portrait & "Teddy Roosevelt" is carrying a big stick—they collide—mayhem and romance commence! What do you think of that as a Meet Cute?
I'm into Chapter Two and have 821 words so far. I've introduced the main characters, and they'll see each other soon. Haven't decided if they'll meet before the masquerade party collision.
I've been working on more reels for my Author Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/RomanceByDeGroot. If you've seen them, I'd love to hear what you think. On some the photos move a little too fast to read all the words. I may try redoing the photos so there are fewer words on them. I've searched for a way to slow them, but no luck. The reel can be paused with a click and a second click resumes it.
I enjoy creating the reels. Figuring out a theme, selecting the photos, and deciding on the music is fun. My taste for country music is reflected in my selections but also a few oldies but goodies have snuck in.
Before the end of the month, I should learn how Green Eyes & Dimples did in the 2024 3rd quarter competition for the Firebird Book Awards. I'd love to get another award and believe this story is worthy of one. I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I find out.
Read on!
