Thoughts On a Cold January Day
January 14, 2024
Our temps in the Upstate of South Carolina have dipped considerably. However, I know many of you are experiencing worse, plus that pesky yet beautiful white stuff, AKA snow. This weather is perfect for wrapping yourself in afghans or quilts and enjoying the flames of a fire in the fireplace. Quite romantic. Unfortunately, not to be used in my current work in progress (WIP) as it's set in early July—summertime!
My WIP is now titled Green Eyes & Dimples. What do you think? I change it from The Fireman and the She-shed because the burning down of the shed is one scene and the shed belongs to the heroine's sister-in law. So why this title? The hero has green eyes and dimples. That's what the heroine pictures whenever she thinks of him. Hence, the new working title. The emphasis is on working. I may change the title again before I finalize the story.
I've been working with the Senior Editor at Solstice Publishing on finalizing Playground Antics. I haven't received the cover yet but am hopeful I will next week. As soon as I get it, I'll share it with you. Afterall, subscribing to my newsletter has benefits!
I'm participating in another AutoCrit challenge. The prompt is an object, a setting, and a verb. This time we'll have TWO twists to contend with. Here's the prompt:
- Object: a pair of worn ballet slippers
- Setting: A campsite on the shore of a manmade lake that drowned a town and still contains the structures and the graveyard.
- Verb: Flambé
The first twist is given to us on the 16th and the second on the 23rd. The submission is due the 28th. The word limit is less than 1,000 words. I've finished my story and reached 962 words, only 37 words shy of 999. I'm hoping to be able to incorporate the twists without an extensive rewrite.
This is another challenge where the AutoCrit folks decide on the top ten submissions and read them during one of their YouTube sessions. Those of us tuned in vote to determine the winner.
My title is A Deathbed Request. Sound interesting? I will share it with you all at the conclusion of the challenge. Yes, another benefit for subscribers!
Stay warm!
