NOVEMBER NEWS!
November 23, 2024
Happy Thanksgiving!
I have much to be thankful for a loving husband, the cutest assistant ever, a comfortable home, a supportive publisher, a talent for writing, readers of my books, and wonderful newsletter subscribers!
Recently, I updated my website to highlight my Firebird Book Award winners and those receiving Honorable Recognition. I added a header, AWARD WINNERS!! This is displayed on the Home page and the Works page. I think it was a worthwhile update.
Bourbon Neat is progressing as is my challenge story, for which I still need a real title. One will eventually come to me.
My publisher is looking to publish anthologies featuring short stories from their authors—six authors per book featuring an interesting selection of genres. The required word count for each story is a minimum of 5,000 words and a maximum of 10,000 words. I think my challenge story may work for this. I have a few more words to write.
More news from my publisher. We were offered an opportunity to opt out of exclusivity with Amazon. My books will remain available on Amazon for those of you who love buying from them! For me, it mainly means no longer having books in the Kindle Unlimited program. That shows as pages read on my royalties statements. Very few pages of my books are read, so it was a no-brainer to accept this opportunity. Each book has a separate date for ending the exclusivity, but by March 2025, all my books will be out of that status. The publisher will upload my books to Draft2Digital, who make the books available to many other booksellers: Amazon, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Kobo (including Kobo Plus), Smashwords Store; Tolino, OverDrive, cloudLibrary, Everand, Baker & Taylor, Hoopla, Vivlio, BorrowBox, Odilo, Palace Marketplace, Gardners. I've never heard of many of these but will check them out. If this gets my books out in various markets, I'm all for it. Time will tell if this makes a difference in sales, so we'll see what happens.
Creating reels for Facebook continues to amuse me. For those who have seen them, I hope you've found them entertaining.
Warm regards,
Elaine
